Best Tulip Varieties and trends in 2025

This is a year of new vitality in the tulip world. Since decades gardeners have been drawn to the same safe reds and yellows, 2025 is introducing a new slew of favorites-soft pastels that seem to have been plucked out of a watercolor picture, and bold two-toned beauties that immediately halt visitors. Designed to adorn borders or to cut in the garden, these are the tulips everybody is talking about.

The Breakout Star: ‘Beauty Trend’.

One tulip which has conquered the gardening world this year is the one named Beauty Trend. Such an assortment of Triumph starts with creamy white petals feathered and edged with reddish-pink. The flower in question gets darker in those pink tones as it grows and expands, almost hand-painting its way across and altering each day.

What makes it special:
Massive goblet-shaped flowers that are attention grabbing.
Colors that change during the course of blooming.
Grows 16-20 inches, ideal in the middle of the border.
Grows in the middle of the season (late April to early May)
Grows well as a cut flower.

Dutch growers of bulbs tell us that acre after acre of Beauty Trend makes an almost emotional effect–even the veteran workers have been moved by acres of such tulips in the spring breeze. The same response has been translated to the garden centers where the Beauty Trend bulbs are selling so fast that the suppliers can hardly keep them on stock.

Where to plant it:
Plant Beauty Trend in the place where you will find it every day. Along an often used walk by a kitchen window, or in your front door containers. It is not a tulip to squeeze in the background of the border. Plant in groups of at least 15-20 bulbs to make a real impact–this type of plantation is not served well by individual planting.

The Traditional Food Pairs That Will Never Fail.

New varieties get headlines but some combinations have a reason to stay in gardens. The combination of Queen of night and Menton is still one of the most gorgeous color combinations you can plant.

‘Queen of Night’

This is a tulip of deep purple-black, and it is hard to beat. The flowers are almost black in some light, which gives a depth and contrast to the other colors to stand out. The flowers are large–3 inches high and of the traditional tulip form–and the colour does not fade away.

Growing details:
Height: 20-24 inches
Bloom time: Late spring
Best application: Beautiful in light colors, peach or white.
Compliments: forget-me-nots, white daffodils or light purple alliums.

‘Menton’

Menton is at the other extreme end of the spectrum, and has warm peachy-reds, with some touches of orange closer to the edges of the petals. The petals of this Single Late tulip are relaxed, slightly reflexed, and make it appear more naturalistic than tightly cupped varieties.

Growing details:
Height: 20-26 inches
Bloom time: Late spring
Best use: Cottage gardens or cut flower beds or mixed borders.
Comes with: Deep purples, burgundies, creamy whites.

Why this pairing works:

The gloomy, brooding colours of Queen of Night make the warm peach-red of Menton shine. It is a complex mix which is both vintage and modern. They should be planted in approximately equal quantities and not clumped together based on each variety. The mixing effect is visual interest and therefore attracts the eye throughout the planting.

Planting ratio:
Test 1:1 or 2:1 (two Menton to one Queen of Night). The dark tulip is so violent that a small portion is much.

The Pastel Revolution

The year 2025 is the beginning of more calm and gentle color schemes in the garden. Pastels are not new to tulip; this year they are planted in new ways, in masses together, or tonally mixed.

Lavender and Purple Pastels

The tulips are soft lavender and thus offer a soothing effect in the garden. They are effective both in formal and informal cottage gardens.

Varieties to try:
Negrita: Meaningful purple tulip, which is very weather-resistant.
Blue Aimable: light lilac-pink with a
